A political election campaign usually involves public speeches, debates, discussions and advertising. But not only: in some cases, the candidates agree or choose to be visited and portrayed within their own four walls. When depicted in one’s entrusted environment, every detail may be of high importance: The selection of (im)personal objects – their position in space, their quantity –, the spatial background, the light, the furniture, the traces of life. Our object of interest is the physical surroundings that a president or prime minister has chosen to be photographed in. We acknowledge the political potential that the domestic sphere reveals when it is turned into a space of representation.
